Thunder Strike’ to flush out ‘Boko-Haram -Nigeria Air Force

The Nigerian Air force on Wednesday said it has commenced the conduct of Operation “Thunder Strike” to flush out Boko Haram in selected locations in the North East.

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar disclosed this to newsmen during a working visit to Maiduguri.

He said that the visit was to enable him have a firsthand information on the operation of the Air force in the area. Abubakar said that the operation was designed to deny the insurgents the freedom of action to attack soft targets in local communities, markets and places of gathering.

“Our men have been doing an excellent job. They have been working round the clock to make sure that our communities are safe and secured.

“We feel that we have to come and appreciate them for all the effort, and to convey the appreciation of the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammad Buhari, for all they have been putting to ensure our communities are safe.

“We have also commenced operation `Thunder Strike’ and so far, we have seen excellent results. We want to make sure that these people who have evil intention do not have the opportunity to come and attack our communities and our troops.

“From what I have been briefed, it is very clear that so much have been put-in in terms of commitment, diligence and patriotism,’’ he said. On whether the operation will bring an end to Boko Haram, Abubakar said

“the issue of defeating Boko Horam has been over flogged; what we are simply doing is to make sure that our communities are safe.

“I can assure you that Boko Haram have been substantially defeated; they cannot function as an organised fighting force; they can only attack soft targets, go to a market or somewhere people are gathered, to detonate their explosives.

“What we are simply doing is to make sure that they are denied even this soft targets; we are doing this with the support of the fighting troops of ‘operation lafiya dole’, he said. He added that the major challenge faced was the weather conditions in the area, especially in this period of the year.

“Our major challenge is whether, which we do not have control over, but from what I have seen so far, the operation is successful.

“I want to commend our fighters who put in their best despite the harsh weather conditions, to protect our territories, “Abubakar said. (NAN)

Taye current to unite Osupa, Pasuma and KWAM1 Ariya Repete

The old rivalry among Fuji musicians will soon be a thing of the past as Ibadan-based singing sensation, Taye Akande popularly known as Taye Currency, has declared his intention to unite the arrowheads in the forefront of the dispute.

Taye Currency with K1 De Ultimate

This revelation came while Taiye Currency was performing at the semi finals of the Ariya Repete 2018 at the National Stadium, Lagos, last weekend, where he said he has since adopted Fuji exponent, Said Osupa as his father, and Wasiu Alabi Pasuma as his older brother. He also told reporters that he holds both as his mentors. To this end, he hopes to end their age-long rivalry.

It will be recalled that Osupa and Pasuma have always been in contention of who deserves to be called the King of Fuji music, a title which the latter has always laid claim to. This claim has in the past pitched most of the Fuji musicians as well as their fans against one another.

With this latest effort by Taye Currency, it is hoped that the age-long rivalry among the frontline fuji musicians and long awaited peace will reign among the musicians in the Fuji genre.

Ariya Repete is an annual talent hunt organised by Goldberg Lager Beer, the initiative seeks to discover young talents in the Yoruba traditional music including Fuji and Juju

DON JAZY CALLS FOR SUPPORT FOR SONGWRITERS

Abuja – Don Jazzy, boss of Mavin records has called for more recognition for songwriters, urging those with such talent to showcase themselves.

                                                              DON JAZZY

The renowned music producer made the statement on his official social medium platforms stating that not everyone will be successful as artists.
@Donjazzy “I think what our industry needs now is more song writers. We have too many artists as it is”.

He added “Maybe you aren’t successful because you think you’ve what it takes to be an artist when you could be a mega songwriter.

“Not all of us will be successful artists”.

Don Jazzy hinted he is working on something that will enable some talented writers earn more than artists.

“I am working on something and when I’m done, I can guarantee some of you will make more money than most artists just being a talented song writer”.

The Mavin record label boss claimed to be playing his part by employing songwriters and his artists are willing to work with because they are not too proud and stingy.

He urged artist to let songwriters play their roles stating that no man is an island.

“I have some songwriters and my artists are not stingy to share and not too proud to want to attempt to do it all alone. No man is an island.

“Artists need to understand that we respect their own craft as artists and performers and we don’t care if they wrote their songs or not”.

Don Jazzy called for a change in attitude towards recognition of song writers saying more credits should be given to them insisting that everybody involved in a job deserves their accolades.

“All these need to change and they will change. When an artist wins an award for the song you wrote, yes the songwriter wins also”.

“Avengers: Infinity War” dominated the North American box office for a third straight weekend, raking in $61.8 million as it easily fended off competition, industry estimates showed Sunday.

The Disney blockbuster, featuring a string of Marvel superheroes out to save the universe from powerful purple alien Thanos (Josh Brolin), has had a cumulative take over three weeks of $547.8 million, according to box office tracker Exhibitor Relations.

Another new film, “Breaking In,” a thriller starring Gabrielle Union, was third at $16.8 million.

Roma vs Liverpool : Monchi calls for VAR, bemoans refereeing mistakes

Roma sporting director Monchi claimed that VAR “must” be brought into the Champions League after “incredible” errors by the officials during Roma vs Liverpool semi-final derby .

Eusebio Di Francesco’s Italian outfit threatened a repeat of their quarter-final comeback against Barcelona, but fell to a 7-6 aggregate defeat despite a 4-2 second-leg win at the Stadio Olimpico.
Although Roma were awarded a penalty in each game of the last-four tie, Monchi insisted his team would have reached the final if VAR had been used in the Roma vs Liverpool derby

“Congratulations to Liverpool but it is necessary to analyse what happened,” he told Italian television.

“There were two very clear penalties that were missed tonight’s Roma vs Liverpool derby and that changed everything, and in the first leg they scored an offside goal.

“The VAR must come into the Champions League. I don’t understand why there is no VAR in the most important competition.”

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has said that video technology will not be introduced for next season’s European competitions, although FIFA will use it for this year’s World Cup in Russia.

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon launched into a remarkable tirade against the officials after his side were knocked out by an injury-time Cristiano Ronaldo penalty in the quarter-finals against Real Madrid, and Monchi thinks that Juve were also unfairly treated.

“This is the moment for Italian football to raise its voice,” he added.

“Juventus were also eliminated because of incredible mistakes. There were also (incredible mistakes) yesterday in Real against Bayern Munich.”

Roma vs Liverpool : We don’t do it the easy way, says Henderson

Roma vs Liverpool :Jordan Henderson admitted Liverpool had done it the hard way after sealing their place in the Champions League final despite a 4-2 defeat in the semi-final second leg at Roma on Wednesday.

Holding a 5-2 lead from the first leg, Liverpool were cruising after going 2-1 up in the return in Rome.
But Roma equalised after the interval and scored twice in the final moments of a dramatic tie which set a Champions League semi-final goal record.

Reds captain Henderson conceded Liverpool had made it more difficult than necessary as Jurgen Klopp’s side set up a final showdown with holders Real Madrid on May 26.

“We never do it the easy way unfortunately. We could have done better in this game but we’ve made it through to the final,” Henderson told BT Sport.

“Overall we handled the situation well apart from the last 10 minutes. We need to stop that but I’m delighted we’re in the final.

“We knew it was important to score and get one early on. It was an amazing effort.

“We have another important game on the weekend against Chelsea and then we have Real Madrid in the final. We will go there with confidence.”

Davido, threw a birthday party for Chioma, 23, with a N45m Porsche surprise birthday gift with plate number that read: ‘Assurance’ on Monday.

The ‘FIA’ crooner had earlier dropped a song titled ‘Assurance’ ahead of Chioma’s party. Sophia, who deleted her Instagram page on Wednesday, is the mother of Davido’s first daughter, Imade and the niece of popular journalist and owner of Ovation magazine, Dele Momodu.

Fans of Davido began to troll Sophia after the singer premiered a song ‘Assurance’ for Chioma on her pre-birthday party. The fans accused Sophia of a failed attempt to ‘tie Davido down’ with the pregnancy and birth of their daughter, despite being aware of his relationship with Chioma.

This comes after Davido revealed that he had known Chioma for five years, although the relationship became public some months ago. Although Sophia is older than Davido, she gave birth to their daughter in 2015, followed by a heavily publicised custody drama. However, the Vlogger is not the only woman to have a child for the DMW boss, as he welcomed another baby girl in 2017 from an American girlfriend Amanda. NAN

When the heart wants what it wants…

Hi!In the course of doing my reportorial  business, I have met many categories of people, who have shared many stories and personal experiences with me. Some people just wanted a listening ear, someone to share their experiences with, which may be sad, happy, traumatic or whatever. Some others wanted solutions to their problems and were genuine about it. Of this group, I love those who involved their partners, it didn’t matter if the other party was willing or ready to participate or not. Their response and attitude would help determine which way to go. I am however wary of two categories of people; those who would tell you one sided stories that make it difficult for you to access the other side to give a true picture of the circumstance. Then, there are those who already knew what they wanted to do, regardless of your opinion, but they wanted it to seem as if you were the one urging them on. Somehow, it would give them comfort that you have heard them and they have been able to convince you that their decision was the best for their circumstance. God help you if this problem of theirs had to do with love, you may find yourself talking to a deaf or literarily speaking to a wall. For everything you say against their lover, they have a defence on their behalf, justifying and rationalising their actions.

And so it was with Nkechi, a very beautiful young girl I met recently in the company of one of my nieces. It was a chance meeting of sort and her friends, including my niece could not help but force her to share her experience with her cheating fiance, just to know if they were wrong about asking her to ditch the guy. Long before she finished her story, I knew there was no point counselling her, her mind was made up already, all she needed was someone to support her. This was a clear trait of women (I don’t want to call us victims) who end up in abusive relationships and with men who don’t really love or respect us.

Nkcchi (26) a graduate, is now serving her NYSC in Enugu. Her boyfriend, Bosun (33) an Officer in the Nigerian Army, and an indigene of Ondo state also resides in Enugu. They have been dating for over two years now. On a visit to Bosun in Enugu last year, Nkechi not only met another lady but received the shock of her life, yet she has continued to defend why he took such a decision. It was quite revealing and interesting for me, though:

“It happened last year when I was in my final year at the University. Bosun had been transferred to Enugu about eight months then. I would always visit him and spend some time. We had been going serious and my parents already knew him. He had also taken me to Ondo to see his parents and we had plans to get married after the service year, despite our ethnic differences. In fact, he had helped influence my posting to Enugu. It was last year, just before my final papers that I discovered that Bosun was having another affair. I had left for Enugu without prior notice to him when ASUU declared their strike. The inconveniences of the journey should have given me some form of premonition that I was in for some disappointment as we did not arrive Enugu until late in the night.

When I got to their Barracks, it was so late that many of the residents had retired for the night. At a point, I was afraid and almost called him on the phone, but I was also determined to surprise him. After much ringing of the door bell, Bosun came to unlock the door, only to stare at me in shock. “What are you doing here at this time of the night? What happened? Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”ýÿ  He bombarded me with so many questions while standing in the doorway. I was already getting annoyed. “Am I going to stand here all night because I didn’t inform you I will be coming? I asked tartly as I pushed my way into the flat while he stared after me, still standing as if rooted to the doorway.

Somehow I suspected that something was wrong because of his attitude. It was unlike him, he didn’t make any move towards me like he always did. I put my luggage in the living room and headed for the kitchen. Everything was so unlike him as the kitchen was sparkling clean and he had a pot of stew and some cooked rice. He followed me into the kitchen and stood by the doorway again. I made to get myself some food and soft drink from the fridge, while explaining to him what had happened on Campus. After getting my food, we moved to the sitting room to eat while I chatted on. He was unusually quiet and looked funny. I asked him if anything was wrong and he said yes. He told me he had company, a girl called in on him unexpectedly, so we would all have to spend the night together since he could not ask her to leave at that time of the night anymore, moreover she came from Ondo to see him. He pleaded with me not to create a scene, prostrating in front of me.

It was a ridiculous situation and I didn’t know what to do. A few minutes later, I heard sounds of movement from the bedroom and she came out. She was dressed in a white night gown and nice-looking too. I guessed she was older than me. At first, I was afraid, I thought she would fight with me. Then I said hello to her and tried to continue with my food. Bosun made the introductions. I could see he was really ashamed of himself and somehow I felt sorry for him. Adeola went back into the bedroom and Bosun tried to console me some more, but I told him he didn’t have to. I also told him I would leave early the following day. He tried to argue, telling me that Adeola would be leaving the next day too.

That night, we all had to share the giant bed as there were no beds in the spare rooms. More so, the sitting room too only had single chairs. I couldn’t get much sleep until the early hours of the morning. But just as I was drifting off, I was woken up by the sound of soft moaning. I turned to see Bosun on top of this girl, having sex right beside me. It was not something that I expected at all from him, so I was shocked. Of course, Bosun didn’t know that I was watching because I laid there very stiff and even numb I guess. And when it was over, I couldn’t get a wink of sleep till day break. I was deeply hurt, I felt that not only did he have a steady girlfriend from his own tribe, he also had no regards for me or my feelings. How could he do that to me if he loved me like he claimed. He still tried to stop me from leaving the next morning, but I wouldn’t listen. I had also woken up to discover that my photograph which always stood on top of the Television had been removed. I didn’t ask him why because I already knew. But I was happy that it had not been replaced by Adeola’s or someone else’s. I told him that I had seen his great performance with his girlfriend, and that since having sex with her despite my presence in the room and on the same bed, meant so much to him, he could continue freely with my blessings.

A few weeks later, Bosun came to see me at school, pleading. He said it was the girl who had seduced him and wouldn’t allow him to sleep. He said she literarily seized his penis in her hand, kneading him all night and asking him to do it to her. He claimed he wouldn’t have done it if he knew that I was awake. He pleaded with me and even asked my parents to beg me, though he refused to tell them what he had done. Later, he made another trip with a good friend of his, then finally another with his mother and brother. Eventually, I had to succumb to pressure and we continued the relationship. I figured if he could go as far as bringing his mother from the village, then he must really be sorry for his action.

am now staying with him in Enugu, though I was given accommodation by my employers. However we are yet to discuss anything serious about getting married. Whenever I tried to raise the issue, he would say he was waiting for something very important at the office and unless that thing comes through, he was not ready to discuss marriage yet. He has even been persuading me to go for my Masters, insisting that young people don’t stop at first Degrees anymore, but add post graduate Diplomas and second Degrees to it. He said going for a Masters would do me much good and even make him very proud of me.

Every one of my friends was convinced that Bosun was plotting to ditch me, yet, he insisted he loved me and wanted to be with only me. As for the girl, I haven’t seen her since then and he told me it was all over with her, that they did not even have anything to do with each other prior to that fateful night. He explained that though they knew each other back at their home town, they had not exchanged anything between them not to mention love and dating. He said one of her brothers was also an officer serving in the state and that she had come to visit him but the brother was not in town, so she came to pass the night at his flat. He insisted that he could not have turned her back because of the fact that they knew each other and would someday meet again in the village. He however did not expect that the girl would do what she did to him that night. On why he could not resist her moves knowing I was in bed with them, he said it was either the work of the devil, or that the girl bewitched him. What do I do? I still love him despite everything. And just as they say, there is no relationship without its own peculiar problems. So, maybe this is mine! Ma, is it serious enough to call it quit?    I don’t think so oh.”

For people like Nkechi, no amount of counselling can help. I believe the picture is very clear. In fact, colourful and bright. If only she can remove her rose coloured glasses and see Bosun for whom he really is. No doubt he will turn out a serial cheat with little or no regards for her feelings. He might even ditch her for another woman later in their marriage. But then, who is to tell what tomorrow holds. With love and patience, Bosun might still become a better man. Or what do you think? Do have a beautiful weekend!!

Tributes to Pius Amolo aka Bongoliso

The entertainment industry in Nigeria on Friday held a night of tribute and songs at the Ayo Banloke Center for the late seasoned actor, singer and dancer, Pius Amolo, popularly called Bonngoliso.
Pius Amolo

The Delta-born Amolo (55) died on Wednesday from a gas explosion in his house. The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), National Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP), Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) and some groups were represented at the event.

They planned to raise funds for the family.

Aremu Tope-Babayemi, the Vice President of AGN, told NAN at the event that Amolo was distinguished himself in the creative industry.

“Only two weeks ago at this same venue, I saw him perform and thrill the crowd. Guests were amazed at his dexterity.

“He was not just a singer, dancer and actor, Amolo was a quintessential performer. Most artistes are either good dancers or singers or actors, but he was all,’’ he said. Babayemi also said that Amolo overcame challenges in his profession.

“ In spite of the challenges in Nigeria’s creative industry, he excelled; because he was highly skilled, there was always the need for his services.

“I was not surprised when he became the backbone and anchor of the Friday event at the Ayo Bankole Centre for Arts and Creative Expression.

“Ayo Bankole Centre is for discerning audience. It is for accomplished musicians. I wasn’t surprised to find him there, and he carved a niche for himself. “He will be deeply missed not only by his family but his colleagues; I pray God to give us the strength to carry on. May his souls rest in peace,” he said.

Actress Ann Njamanze said that she met Amolo when she was young in the industry and he was always willing to render help.

“He was never afraid of the mic and he was never selfish with the mic; he was always willing to share the mic and allow anyone play his own part on stage.

“He enjoyed Nigerian music more than anything else. I was been on stage with him on a number of occasions. He was a wonderful person, a total package. It is sad he is no longer with us,’’ she said. Efe Omefe-Orahroha, also an actress, said that she would remember the late Amolo for many reason.

“He is one of the very few people I met growing up as an artiste.

“I remember then, when my mother was a costumier in the industry and he was one of the good men in the industry I met.

“He was very reserved and responsible. A lot of men would want to take advantage of a young woman but he never did; instead he advised on how to better one’s life,’’

she said. The actress said that the late Amolo usually advised cooking gas users to be careful with it. An actor and producer, Ozi Okoli, told NAN that he first met Amolo at the Don Pedro Obaseki’s stage play, entitled: “Obaseki”.

“He acted a white man; he depicted that character very well and I later saw him sing. He sang well.

“He was a very good actor, dancer and singer, he was a true thespian.

“I was shocked at his death; his future was just opening up for him; when he was about to reap what he sowed, death came knocking; it is so painful,’’ he said.

A script writer, Femi Durojaiye, described Amolo as a reliable friend. “You would like to have him as a friend; he was loyal and you would want to grow old with him. He was very creative and talented.

Durojaiye advised cooking gas users to be careful with it and regularly ensure it would be in order. (NAN)

 Maryam Charles
.

According to her, the popular lawmaker should be treated with respect She added that this is no way to treat a serving lawmaker, and asked that if a serving senator can be treated in this manner, how will the average Nigerian be treated? Read more of her words below; Leave Senator Dino Melaye alone

“I watched in amazement how Senator Dino Melaye was treated by men of the Nigerian police. My amazement turned into shock when I saw Dino on the floor after he alleged that ‘they’ wanted to inject him with an unknown substance.

“I don’t understand what led to his arrest in the first place but I know this is no way to treat a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. How many senators can boast of the impact Dino has had in his time as a lawmaker?

“Some may laugh at him and call him the dancing senator, or unserious lawmaker but you have to admit that Dino is playing his part and is still playing his part in the development of this country.

“This is a man who stood against corruption in the last regime and now, as a lawmaker sponsored bills all aimed at bettering the life of the common Nigerian.

“If our lawmaker can be harassed in this manner, what hope does the average Nigerian have? Guys, our security forces need to treat Dino with respect.

Liverpoo vs Roma : It is absolutely better than I thought – Klopp

Liverpoo vs Roma : Jurgen Klopp saluted Liverpool’s “fantastic” 5-2 demolition of Roma on Tuesday as the Reds manager soaked up a Champions League semi-final first leg goal spree that was beyond his expectations.

Roma’s Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, Roma’s Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan, Roma’s Brazilian defender Juan Jesus, Roma’s Dutch midfielder Kevin Strootman, Roma’s Bosnian striker Edin Dzeko, Roma’s Croatian defender Aleksandar Kolarov, Roma’s Italian midfielder Daniele De Rossi, Roma’s Turkish midfielder Cengiz Under, Roma’s Argentinian defender Federico Fazio, Roma’s Italian midfielder Alessandro Florenzi and Roma’s Greek defender Kostas Manolas pose before the UEFA Champions League first leg semi-final football match between Liverpool and Roma at Anfield stadium in Liverpool, north west England on April 24, 2018. / AFP PHOTO

Klopp’s side are within touching distance of the final after crushing Roma at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah’s brace was followed by goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, who also struck twice to leave Liverpool five up by the 68th minute.

Liverpool let their guard down in the closing stages and Roma netted twice to give themselves a slender chance of a second-leg escape act in Italy.

But Klopp admitted he couldn’t have hoped for a more dynamic display from his team during the Liverpoo vs Roma derby.

“It was the perfect performance for pretty much 80 minutes. We made defensively one mistake, then their penalty is not a penalty but that is the situation and now it is 5-2,” he said.

“Of course we would have been more happy with 5-0 or 5-1 but 5-2 is a fantastic result. We go there and try again.

“It is absolutely better than I thought before the game.”

Following Klopp’s game-plan, Liverpool exploited Roma’s creaky defence as Salah and Mane ran them ragged with their pace and movement.

“We had all these runs behind, it changed the game completely and they couldn’t cope with that. We scored these goals and could have scored more,” Klopp said.

“That is all positive, at this moment it doesn’t feel all positive because they scored these two goals but tomorrow I will see the really good part of the game.”

Aside from Roma’s late double, the only problem for Klopp on a memorable evening was the injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain that saw him carried off in the first half.

“Oxlade-Chamberlain is probably a really bad injury,” Klopp said.

“That is bad news for us. The squad doesn’t get bigger at the moment so we need to be creative in the next few games.”

Although Liverpool fans will be dreaming of a final showdown with Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, their players are well aware Roma staged a stunning fightback to eliminate Barcelona in the quarter-finals.

The Italians lost the first leg 4-1, but won 3-0 in Rome to go through on away goals.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson admitted there was frustration at letting Roma back into it and he warned his team-mates not to let down their guard in the return leg.

“It felt as though we were in full control but we basically gave them two goals, you can’t do that in the Champions League,” he said.

“At the same time we played well, we will go there with a three-goal advantage.

“Overall we have got to stay positive. We knew it would not be easy here, we know it will not be easy there.

“It will be a challenge but one we will look forward to and one we will hopefully finish them off.”

Tenure elongation: We fought hard for congress, we got it — Tinubu

….As APC bars Ajomale, other third term executives from re-contesting

By Olasunkanmi Akoni

lagos—As part of preparations towards 2019 general elections, All Progressives Congress, APC, National Leader, Senator Bola Tinubu, yesterday, said the party fought hard for the conduct of congress against all odds and got it for true party democracy.

                                                   Bola Tinubu
He also announced ban on members who had spent a minimum of eight years as ward, council and state executive members from seeking re-election in its congresses across the state and by extension to all APC- controlled states.

The announcement came barely 24 hours after Tinubu congratulated his party for embarking on the congresses inspite of oppositions, saying: “It is the way to go in building and upholding a truly democratic political party.”

Tinubu, who announced the ban at the party Secretariat of the Lagos chapter, at ACME Road, Ikeja, during a  stakeholders meeting with leadership and members of the party ahead of the May Congress, stressed that the decision was arrived at to inject new blood, new ideals, new development into the executives at all levels.

According to him, “The decision was to allow fresh people to occupy party offices at ward, local government and state levels with a view to taking the APC to the next level in the state.”

Tinubu commended the 68-member National Convention Committee headed by Governor Abubakar Badaru, saying:

“I congratulate the Chairman and members of the Congresses/Convention Committee of our party. Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, who is the chairman of the committee, is a man reputed to be of high character and integrity. Working with other members of the committee, I’m persuaded that our party would conduct hitch-free congresses at all levels and the national convention.

“I also congratulate our party for embarking on the congresses against all odds. This is the way to go if we are desirous of building and upholding a truly democratic political party. Our ultimate goal should be the greater interest of the party.”

Tinubu, at the meeting which was well attended said: “We fought hard against tenure elongation and now we are going to have our congresses. You sent a message through our leader, Oluyole Olusi, on behalf of Lagos that we don’t want tenure elongation. Ever since, we have worked tirelessly. Now the council has agreed that there will be congress. Congress committee members have been inaugurated yesterday (Monday) with Governor Badaru of Jigawa as the chairman.”

Nollywood Actor\Producer Kunle Afolayan Calls Out His Brother Aremu For Calling Their Father Poor

Nollywood actor\producer Kunle Afolayan has come out to refute the what his brother Aremu Afolayan said about their father.

Before his death, Adeyemi Afolayan, popularly known as Ade Love, was a famous filmmaker in Nigeria. So, it came as a rude shock when one of his sons, Aremu Afolayan, stated that his father lived a very poor life despite his fame.

However, Ade Love’s most popular son, Kunle Afolayan, has rubbished Aremu’s claims, insisting that their father did not die a poor man.

He told the Punch’s Sunday Scoop, “Do you know Ade Love? Was Ade Love a poor man? That is his (Aremu’s) own opinion as everyone has a mind of their own. I would not say things were rosy, but we were never poor. If your parents were able to give you a quality education and you enjoyed some luxuries that a lot of people didn’t have access to, then you cannot openly say you come from a poor home.”

He also stressed that during the lifetime of his late father, he was the biggest filmmaker in Nigeria and he was always busy working on projects.

He said, “I am sure I didn’t come from a poor home. Though I cannot speak for anyone, I just think he (Aremu) is stupid. I didn’t get to see the story. Funnily, some people thought I was the one who granted the interview. When the General Manager of Eko Hotel told me he read my interview in SUNDAY PUNCH, I was surprised because I didn’t grant any interview recently. Whenever I see the man again, I will let him know it was not me he read; it is a misrepresentation.”

Kalu calls for unity in Abia APC

ABA—FORMER Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged members of the APC in the state to work together to ensure the party wins the governorship position in the 2019 general election.

Orji Kalu
Kalu who stated this at an APC stakeholders meeting in Umuahia decried the infighting and disunity among members of the APC in Abia and called for change, stressing that the party must put its house together to defeat the ruling PDP in the state.

He alleged that some members of the party in the state had been hobnobbing with the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu administration to undermine the APC’s resolve to win the governorship position in 2019.

He said: “We need to save the APC in Abia and give it a direction. We want to have one strong APC in Abia. We want to see one APC that belongs to all of us. If anyone goes against the party, he must be punished. Let there be peace in Abia APC. I don’t want us to be going to Abuja and reporting ourselves. Because of the time we are entering, we won’t allow this party to disintegrate in Abia.

“We made a promise to our leaders that we will win all the positions in Abia in 2019. But we can’t return APC when we are quarrelling. We can’t win when we say this man is for Nyerere Anyim, this one is for Ikechi Emenike.”

He was picked up at the airport on his way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the Federal Government after checking in.

Melaye had written  his Facebook account in the morning, saying: “I have just been arrested at the International Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport on my way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the Federal Government after checking in.”

Unable to provide answers to Melaye’s question, the Immigration officials, nevertheless, kept Melaye in detention awaiting the arrival of the police that gave the directive for his arrest.

But in between the time of Melaye’s arrest and detention by Immigration officials, the attention of INTERPOL’s Commissioner of Police was sought in a bid to solicit his imm

She raped me, says man that impregnated his 21-yr-old daughter

LAGOS—A 50-year-old private guard, who was arrested for having carn
al knowledge of his daughter, which resulted in pregnancy, has said his daughter raped him, while also blaming his indulgence on the devil.

Preliminary investigation by policemen at Igando Division revealed that the suspect, Taiwo Oyelabi, had been sleeping with his biological daughter since November 2017. It was further revealed that he often went to work with his daughter, aged 21, where the act also took place.

Trouble started for the girl, who is a twin, after her parents separated. Their aunt, who resides in Cote D’Ivoire, took custody of the children until they returned last year.

How he was arrested—Lagos CP

Explaining how the suspect was arrested, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Imohimi Edgal, who described the act as not only un-African but against the law and humanity, said: “Sometime in November 2017, the suspect took the now grown girl from his sister and brought her home to live with him in his house at Iyaba-Oba.

“Since then, the suspect had been having inappropriate sexual liaisons with his daughter and the unholy liaison between father and daughter resulted in pregnancy.

“Investigation into the case revealed that the suspect is a security guard. But the strange part is that whenever he was going to work, he went with his daughter. This strange behavior attracted the attention of the community and they reported it to the Police.”

‘I am not the only one sleeping with her’

When approached, the suspect said: “This is not ordinary. It is the work of the devil. But my daughter is also to blame because she raped me. She started by kissing me. The first time she did it, I was sleeping.

“I woke up and beat her and told her to stop it. I even took her to a white garment church for deliverance, where I was told to bring some things with which to prepare some spiritual bath for her to stop the act.

“I even went ahead to engage her in a nylon-making factory, yet she continued.”

Asked why he always went to work with his daughter, he said: “She said she could not stay at home alone, as her twin sister is married and my second wife left me when my children came back.

“We did it five times. By the time she realised she was pregnant, she was over three months gone and there was nothing we could do about it.

“Besides, I am not the only one she has slept with. She also has a boyfriend. I believe her boyfriend is responsible for the pregnancy.”

Suicide attempt

He continued: “When I discovered she was pregnant, I tried to kill myself three times, but people stopped me. The first time, I tried to drink insecticide, but a neighbor stopped me.

“I later jumped into a well, but I was rescued alive. I wanted to take my life because this is not real. It was my landlord that reported me to the Police because I owe him,” the Osun State-born man added.

The suspect, according to the CP, will be processed to the special offences court in Ikeja.

Buhari’s govt is worst in Nigeria’s history – Olisa Agbakoba explodes

Former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Chief Olisa Agbakoba SAN, is the leader of the National Intervention Movement, which is aimed at working towards using the 2019 elections to produce a new crop of leaders for the country. In this phone interview with DAILY POST, he spoke on a wide-range of issues and harped on the need for Nigeria to be rescued from its “worst” state that the President Muhammadu Buhari government using the forthcoming 2019 elections. Sylvester Ugwuanyi brings you excerpts…

Is there any relationship between the national intervention movement and the Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM, being promoted by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo?

There’s no relation between both (NIM and CNM). The Obasanjo own came much later. Obasanjo’s group came over maybe six months after ours had been established. We are not the same organization. The whole idea is that we should all be able to form a strong political movement that will make the 2019 elections viable, credible and fair and produce new set of political actors. There are so many movements, there is the NIM, the Tunde Bakare movement, there is the Obasanjo movement, there is Oby Ezekwesili movement; there is that of Charlyboy.

Is the possibility that all these movements will merge into a political front in the build up to 2019?

“What is important is to work towards a common agenda. Whether we merge or not, is not the issue. The issue is that do we all agree that our political and economic condition is in a terrible state. And if so, what can we do about it, particularly for 2019. That is the main issue.

Would you say you have the same agenda with that of Obasanjo’s group?

Of course!

Some persons allege that Obasanjo is merely trying to install one of his loyalists as president come 2019, what’s your reaction to that?

I’m not interested in allegations. I’m interest in facts. The fact is that Nigeria is not in good shape today and the second fact is how can we make Nigeria a better place? Whoever is on the same page with me to stop Nigeria’s descent into anarchy is my friend. I am not interested in whether the person was a bad man in the past or whatever. My eye is focused on the goal of making Nigeria a better place by 2019 which means we have a great interest in the way the election will turn out, and we have a great interest in who becomes the Nigerian president.

A lot of people have stated that the time before 2019 is practically too short… (Cuts in)

For me, the answer to that is that it is better to do something than to sit down at home and complain. I hope you’re not suggesting that because the time is short and things are getting bad, nobody should talk. That would not be a viable alternative. So it’s best to do something, it’s best to do something. It’s best not to complain about what people are doing. It’s better to encourage them. Here is something new. Let us see how it will play out because we are all Nigerians. We all know that we have had a rough time at the hands of APC so-called change party. So, it is not whether we are merging with Obasanjo’s group or whether the time is too short. What is important is that can we achieve our goals towards 2019 successfully. And if so, how? Those are the important questions.

What really is your strategy towards making an impact in the 2019 elections?

Part of what we are doing is the fact that you are interviewing me on the issue. This goes to show that there is something different that people are looking. There is a momentum and national anger that we can really-really tap into. We have canvassed very heavily for people to make sure they have their voter card because without their voter card, they can complain all they like and remember that there are potential things we can do. The first is to make sure Nigeria gets new political actors in 2019 and for me, that is enough achievement. The icing on the cake is that we would be part of those actors to make sure that there is no derailme
